Sexual Assault
Sexual violence encompasses any form of non-consensual sexual contact, whether it be verbal or physical in nature. Perpetrators may employ force, threats, manipulation, or coercion to carry out these acts against the victim’s will.
Forms of sexual violence include:
- Sexual assault and rape: This includes any non-consensual sexual acts, such as rape, attempted rape, forced kissing, or groping. This can also include someone exposing one’s genitals or naked body to other(s) without consent, masturbating in public places, non-consensual image sharing, and/or watching someone engage in private acts without their knowledge or permission
- Child sexual assault and incest: This involves any sexual activity with a child, including touching, fondling, or exposing them to explicit material.
- Sexual assault by a person’s spouse or partner: This refers to non-consensual sexual activity within a marriage or intimate partnership.
- Sexual harassment: This includes unwelcome sexual advances, comments, or behaviors that create a hostile or intimidating environment. It can occur in various settings, such as workplaces, schools, or public spaces.
- Sexual exploitation and trafficking: This is a form of modern-day slavery, involving the coercion, abduction, or recruitment of individuals for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
